Collecting News Sweet Sakura Bear, designed by Elena herself, has hit the stores in full force in Japan. Sweet Sakura is symbolic of the cherry blossoms in Japan and is a quiet and shy girl. Unfortunately, nothing new is being released (to our knowledge) in any English speaking parts of the world. | ||

What's wrong with this picture? Yes! That's right! Although alluded to in the article, the 2003 S.S.C. has been left out of the illustration, presumably to heighten the contrast between the 80's version and the 2009 re-do thus ramping up the tabloid "shock horror" factor. Also, that bit about the C.B.s getting yet another makeover?.... ...IT'S A LOAD OF COBBLERS! The new toys and upcoming movie won't be featuring a bunch of "size zero" characters but the current Adventures in Care-A-Lot crew. (Yes, they have lost a bit of weight but that happened last year, as any fule kno.... ) Honestly, people are insecure and paranoid enough these days without irresponsible hacks churning out ill researched, (but very skillfully worded), nonsense like this.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Whatever happened to that adage? There are some areas where I think constant change is a good thing--technology, for one--but, really, were the 80s cartoons that bad? ...Let me rephrase that... Are they really in need of such drastic overhauls? Y'know, a few tweaks to bring them to the present day is fine, but to just simply forego what was established and churn out something radically different...sometimes, it's just too much...*sighs* When will these writers/producers/creative hacks learn? |

Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears may not need "fixing" but the market for products based upon them can only absorb so much before it becomes saturated. That's why American Greetings revamped Care Bears last year and are redoing SSC now, so they'll actually have something new to sell. That's not to say there isn't a place for tried and trusted characters any more. It seems that in all the weeping and wailing about "spoiled Childhoods" and "Bratzification" a certain other character's return has gone unnoticed... |
