Two nights ago I got the I-worm/VB.GK worm from an email. It's been given me a lot of trouble. Basically my AVG pops up every couple seconds to tell me a threat is detected. This happens for about 5 minutes straight then stops. Then starts back up a few minutes later. What the worm seems to be doing is trying to put .exe files in every folder I have in MyDocs. Yesterday I'd go into the folder that was mentioned in the pop up and I could see the file sitting there so I deleted a few. It didn't work. They just came back the next time the pops ups started. I ran AVG, crap cleaner, Ad-Aware SE personal, AFT cleaner and cleared all my cookies, cache and recycle bin. I've run hijack this and I'm not noticing anything too out of the ordinary. It's about 36 hours later and only as of this morning I haven't had one pop up and I can't find any exe files where I found them before. I haven't run any scans since yesterday morning (which didn't stop anything) and all day yesterday it still was acting up. There is almost no info on this worm on the net. I suspect it's in the registry keys but it's odd that it's not doing it today. Any ideas on why that is or maybe how I can make sure it's gone, or get it gone? I'm running AVG now and it hasn't found anything. When I was running it at the height of the pop ups it found 20 or more threats. Do some worms attack for a day and then go peacefully away? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another question I have is about my cursor. It seems to be more blinking than usual. This was before the worm. When I click on the green side bar to the left I can actually get the cursor to be as tall as that side bar and it sits there and blinks. It's odd. I took a screen shot. ![]() |

I had problems with my computer awhile back and found out it was because of my AOL instant messenger. I deleted it and everything was running smoothly. It was really weird. Anyways, when I was having problems with it, it was freezing and running really slow. I remember my cursor blinking a lot too. I see you said you deleted a lot and ran spyware programs. It seems like you did everything you could do. But, did you try compacting your files? Maybe that would work. My knowledge on computers is probably equivalent to a mustard seed. Hope it get's fixed for you! |

Wow, that's a lot of programs. I don't know how to prevent the problem but I used to use AD-aware and Norton Antivirus (part of the Symantec Corp.) and it didn't detect any trojan viruses on my computer. So I switched to this anti-virus called 'nod32' and it's awesome. It detected a high alert virus for me, which Norton never did. It monitors a bunch of stuff (e-mail, microsoft documents, internet and files) as well. If you decide to try it, I think it gives you a 30-day trial but my bf's brother is a computer nerd so I have *checks* 16,715,483 days to use it. Let me know if you want the extended or full version of nod32 and I could e-mail or MSN you the file.Too bad my bf's brother can't come over to your house because that's what I do when I run into problems. |

Christina I would love an email of that program if you think you can send it. I'd love to try it. Thanks!! The worm seemed to go away on its own? The morning I posted this I reran all the programs and they came up clean. I haven't had a problem since. I've been trying to run programs to see if I can catch it as a dormant file. I don't know if it is possible for worms to just go away but I'm hoping it is. |

Here's the link for download the 30-day free trial of nod32. http://www.eset.com/download/index.php I'll e-mail you the patch to get 1000000+ days to use it. Hope it works. Here's some additional info about nod32: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOD32 |
